Thomas was born circa 1877 at New Zealand. Thomas was employed as a Dentist, at Melbourne, Victoria.
He married Eliza Grant in 1900 at Victoria.
There was an "advertorial" in the Advocate newspaper on 6 August 1910, p31
"We draw the attention of our readers to an advertisement from Mr. Thomas Inglis Cairns, dental surgeon, of 225 Smith-street, Fitzroy.
Mr. Cairns, who has had considerable experience in his profession, very creditably passed the Dental Board examination in 1903, and makes a specialty of gold fillings and gold crowns, and guarantees complete satisfaction in all branches of dentistry.
The care of the teeth is one of the absolute necessities for perfect health, and people commit a grave error in placing themselves in the hands of the unskilled.
Mr. Cairns holds numerous testimonials certifying to the skill and attention which he devotes
to his clients.
Mr. Cairns' hours are from 9a.m. to 6p.m; Saturdays 9a.m. to 1p.m; evenings, 7 to 9."1

Thomas was drawn into a Court case on 6 January 1912. Whether he was the main complainant or not, I am sure he was pleased to action taken.
It does show us that his residentail address was either 406 or 410 Richardson Street, Middle Park, Melbourne.
This is a precis of the case from the newspaper.
"A respectably-dressed young woman, named Jessie Nicholson, said to be a recent arrival from Scotland, appeared before Messrs. Morrison, P.M., and Baragwanath, J.P., at the local court on Wednesday, charged with keeping a house of ill repute at 408 Richardson-street, Middle Park."
"John Alexander Brotchie, agent, 315 Collins-street, said he leased the promises at 406 Richardson-street,
furnished, to Nicholson on 28th November last, for a period of six months. She signed the lease, and paid the rent — £2 5s; - weekly. Thomas Ingles Cairns, dentist, lived in the house next door. In his opinion, the house was one of ill repute. Daily from 11 p.m. to about 2 a.m. the occupants were very disorderly, and men were coming and going constantly."1

Thomas Inglis Cairns died on 9 January 1943 at High Street, Glen Iris, Melbourne, Victoria. He was aged 67.2,3 His death notice in the The Argus, Mon 10 Jan 1944 reads as:
CAIRNS.-In loving memory of my dear husband. Thomas Inglis Cairns, who passed away January 9, 1943. -Ever remembered. (Inserted by his loving wife. Eliza.)
CAIRNS.-In loving memory of our dear father. Thomas Inglis Cairns, who passed away January 9, 1943. -Peacefully resting. (Inserted by his loving daughter, Grace, and son-in-law. Eddie.)4
He was buried at Burwood Cemetery, 74-108 Burwood Highway, Burwood, Melbourne.3 His obituary in the The Age, Wed 13 Jan 1943, p3 reads as: Mr. T. J. Cairns Mr. Thomas Inglis Cairns, who died at his home, High-street, Glen Iris, aged 67, practised as a dentist in Collins Street for many years, and later at Ouyen. He took an active interest in bowls, and was a life member of Ouyen Bowling Club. He is survived by a widow and four children.1
