Guilfoyle Funeral Services. Atherton Ph 4091 2147."
His eulogy, given by his brother William Howard Gill (Bill), reads as: "EULOGY (By brother Bill)
This eulogy is very difficult for me so I hope you will excuse me if I become somewhat emotional from time to time.
Firstly I would like to thank my immediate families for making the long trip north and I refer to our sister Iris, Brother-in-law Bill, also Albert's Great Nephew David and his wife Karen.
Albert's daughter by his first wife, Toni, could not attend today due to time and distant restraints but she is certainly here in spirit.
Likewise Albert's eldest surviving sister Roma could not attend because of age and physical problems.
Albert Reginald Gill was born in West Preston, Victoria on the 17-1-28 to Daisy and Howard Gill.
He attended the West Preston Primary School and later the Northcote High School.
After our mother died in 1941, we children went our own particular ways, Albert finally going to his sister Roma in Sydney.
A few years later Albert made the move to Cairns where he worked for Vince Vlasoff on his vessel 'Seven Seas' as a diver maintaining the exterior of the Green Island Observatory.
Albert also was a member of the joint Smithsonian and Australian Government expedition to search for Captain Cooks cannons. As the world now knows that search was successful with Albert being very proud in the diving role he played.
In 1952 Albert married Vince's sister Joyce and from that marriage Toni was born.
Tragically Joyce died when Tony was quite young.
After the death of his wife, Albert joined his nephew Christopher in business in Cairns and they worked together for a number of years.
Eventually Albert bought the property in Malanda and married his second wife Eileen, and from that union Alison was born.
Tragedy however was once again to enter his life when Eileen tragically died whilst Alison was quite young.
At this point Albert lost some purpose in life until Diane came to play a part in his future.
Albert and Diane had casually known each other for some four years and Diane, knowing Albert's circumstances tried to get him married to someone else but destiny had other plans.
Diane and Albert became husband and wife.
It is said there is a partner in life for everyone.
It is also said some marriages are made in heaven - well maybe so, but with Albert and Diane they had both found their true partner in life and were in fact soulmates - a partnership not all marriages attain.
The elements essential for a successful marriage continued to grow right up to Albert's death;-
Love for each other.
Respect for each other.
Dignity.
Great consideration for each other.
Loyalty and Generosity.
So what was Albert Gill as a man. He was;-
An adventurer.
An entrepreneur.
He was resilient.
He was confident - But above all he was a man of exceptional courage. Well worthy of the honor we are all here to pay him today.
He was also a man tremendously proud of his children - I recall how proud he was of Alison going to England and doing so well over there.
He was a man whom we, his direct family were proud to have called him our brother.
In closing I would like acknowledge Albert as a man who enjoyed great happiness with Diane, and we are all tremendously saddened by his death."
He was buried at Malanda Cemetery, Malanda, Tablelands Region, Queensland.
