Somewhere in his life it changed to "MacGill".Maybe at the time of applying for passage to or entry into Australia.
He was registered at birth as only "William" and was at least the third William in a row. His other names must have been added after his birth and it's hard to find where they may have come from. He immigrated to Western Australia circa 1911.1
William Fairprince Leslie Mc Gill married Elsie May MacDonald in 1916 at Subiaco, Perth, Western Australia.
William died on 20 December 1945 at 188 Churchill Avenue at Subiaco, Western Australia, from Valvular Endocarditis, Myocarditis and Nephritis 68. From his Death Certificate we know that he was a "Retired Traveller..1 He was buried on 24 December 1945.
From "The Western Australian" newspaper of Thursday 27th December 1945, on page 1:
"MacGILL.-On December 20, 1945. at his late residence, 188 Churchill avenue, Subiaco, William Fairprince Leslie, dearly beloved husband of Elsie MacGill loved father of Charles. Morny and David, fond father-in-law of Shirley. Privately interred in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Karrakatta. on December 24, 1945. by Prosser, Scott and Co. Ltd. Subiaco. The Rev Jones officiated at the graveside." The newspaper cost twopence.1

It was duly transferred to he and his brother, David Lewis Fairprince MacGill, and they decided to continue the business under the same well known name.Harry Cohen continued in the business for about six months, before retiring. The business has continued in the ownership of the MacGill family through into 2004, but by the late twentieth and early twenty-first century, the main focus had shifted from tobacco and related items to pens, in which the business specialised. On 7 August 1978, the place was classified by National Trust of Australia (WA).
In 1988, a building licence was issued to Connor Quinlan for alterations to the shop front of nos. 612-616 Hay Street. This is the first building licence application to specify Lot 3 of Perth Town Lot F20.
In the late twentieth century, the shops at nos. 614 and 616 were re-fitted for Croissant Express and Java Juice respectively.

The only serious casualty in recent seasons happened two years ago when Mornie Mac Gill (the State cricket selector) was struck in the face while deputising for the regular Cricketers' goalkeeper, who was playing with the State colts' team in Sydney." Mornington appeared on the Australian electoral roll of 1972 and listed as living at 28 Newry Street, Floreat Park, Western Australia. Mornington had a listed occupation of manager. He resides there with Phyllis May Macgill a ledger machinist..
