Mrs Benjamin Giddings, who will celebrate her 94th birthday tomorrow,arrived at Port Adelaide from England in 1853 in the ship Caucasian,accompanied by her husband and three children. Mr and Mrs Giddingslived for a time at Gumeracha and afterwards settled at Kersbrook,where they made a wide circle of friends and were much respected. MrGiddings died in 1901 at the age of 87 years. Mrs Giddings who is ingood health, is an excellent conversationalist and frequentlyentertains her friends with lively descriptions of the pioneeringdays. At present the old lady is living with a daughter at Chain ofPonds. She has two sons, Mr F Giddings (Chain of Ponds), and Mr EGiddings (Tea Tree Gully), and four daughters, Mesdames Crispen(Kersbrook), Joyce (Chain of Ponds), and Lambs (North-East Road), andMiss Eliza Giddings 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and fivegreat great grandchildren. Mr John Smithers of Kersbrook, who is 83years of age is a brother.

Obituary 1916
Mrs Benjamin Giddings, an old resident of Chain of Ponds, died at herresidence on Sunday, at the age of 95 years. She was a native ofSawtry, Huntingdonshire, and with her husband and three childrenarrived in South Australia 62 years ago. They settled at Kersbrookand afterwards resided near Gumeracha. In 1871 they made made theirhome at Chain of Ponds. Mr Giddings died at the age of 84 years in1901. Several of Mrs Giddings brothers and sisters still reside inEngland and one is older than she was. Mrs Giddings left two sons(Messrs. F Giddings of Chain of Ponds and E Giddings of Tea TreeGully), and four daughters (Mrs Crispin, of Kersbrook, Mrs Lamb ofWalkerville, Mrs J Joyce of Chain of Ponds, and Miss E Giddings ofChain of Ponds), 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and sevengreat-great-grandchildren.
Her married name was Giddings. Elizabeth (Betsy) Smithers was born on 1 May 1821 at Sawtry Huntingtonshire EnglandG.
Elizabeth (Betsy) Smithers married Benjamin Giddings, son of John Giddings and Mary Whitwell, in 1840 at Huntingdonshire, EnglandG. Elizabeth (Betsy) Smithers was buried in 1916 at Kersbrook Public Cemetery, Adelaide Hills, South AustraliaG.
Elizabeth (Betsy) Smithers died on 7 May 1916 at Kersbrook, SAG, at age 95.
