"When Margaret Hackney Ingles, nee Caithness, died in Edinburgh, Barbara sent her son, Robert Watt, to register the death of his grand-mother. Margaret was 78 when she died in 1889, and her own parents had long since been dead. The grandson had no idea of the christian names of his maternal great-grandparents, so he registered his grandmother's death as:

4th. April, 1889, at 8 Keir Street, Edinburgh.
Margaret Ingles, widow of Robert Ingles, Ships Carpenter.
78 years, Daughter of ------------ Caithness, Captain,
Merchant Service, deceased; and ----------------, deceased.
It is most regrettable that these two christian names were omitted, for without them, we cannot accurately discover the actual Caithness ancestral story."
