St Paul's Church, Port Adelaide, South Australia
The first pile of this building was driven on Monday last by the Hon. Captain Sturt, Assistant Commissioner, in the presence of a large assemblage of the inhabitants of the Port and neighbourhood. Appropriate services were performed by the Rev. Messrs Howard and Farrell. A paper with an inscription showing the date the names of the
committee and of those who took part in the ceremony was sealed up in a bottle enclosed in the timber. The expense of the building will be about 350 pounds towards which about 200 pounds had already been obtained. A congregation has already been found at the Port the Rev. Messrs Howard and Farrell having performed services alternatively every Sunday afternoon for some months past.
The church was opened for divine worship on 9th May 1841.
